The majority of sights and attractions are located within reasonable proximity of each other in the lower peninsula, and for most people it will be quicker and easier to walk to any nearby location or attraction than wait for the bus. Most visitors to the city find they need to make only minimal use of the city’s public bus transit network, if any. Bus services across Charleston and its neighboring islands are operated by CARTA, the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority.
